The Northern Kentucky Regional Cancer Partnership (NKRCP) encompasses an eight-county region consisting of Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties.
The NKRCP is one of 15 regional cancer partnerships (RCPs) across the state charged with carrying out comprehensive cancer control activities at the local level. These RCPs were formed in 2003 by the Kentucky Cancer Consortium, which is implementing the state’s Cancer Action Plan. The NKRCP has 80 members who are dedicated, results-driven volunteers from stakeholders in the community and includes professionals from many disciplines (including medical, government, social service, business and education), as well as cancer survivors and other committed individuals.
In the past almost 4 years that we’ve been formed, the N. KY Regional Cancer Partnership has accomplished the following:
- Conducted a comprehensive community needs assessment for cancer services in our 8-county region, which also identified regional gaps and needs in services;
- Formed “Leading the Way”, a colon cancer workgroup that developed a colon cancer awareness video and has distributed it to area physician’s offices;
- Formed the Barriers to Healthcare Workgroup that identified barriers that patients with cancer face as they attempt to access care. This workgroup is now in the process of sharing their findings and gathering recommendations for improvement throughout the 8 counties. (The Northern Kentucky RCP successfully procured initial funding from the Northern Kentucky Women’s Cancer Coalition for the Barriers to Healthcare focus groups.)
Normally, we hold 2 meetings per year—one in the fall and one in the spring.
