Standing Committees Overview

Standing Committees provide specialized cross-cutting support that enhances cancer control efforts.   They focus on areas of ongoing critical need and work to increase the overall impact of comprehensive cancer control in Kentucky.

Membership for Standing Committees is voluntary and open to any organization, group or individual who meet the following criteria:


  1. Have particular interest in a specific area of cancer prevention and control in Kentucky
  2. Demonstrate experience and/or expertise in that specific area or a related field
  3. Endorse the function, mission and role of the KCC.
The following are Standing Committees that meet ongoing, critical needs of the Consortium:
  • The Communications Committee is responisble for communication outreach and marketing efforts for the Kentucky Cancer Consortium.  They work directly with the Communications Coordinator and Webmaster for the KCC.

  • The Evaluation Committee is responsible for maintaining relevant evaluation plans to assess the efficiency of the implementation of the Cancer Action Plan for Kentucky.  In collaboration with the Kentucky Cancer Registry, the Committee explores avenues for application of cancer prevention and control data. The Evaluation Committee also provides technical support to Regional Cancer Partners.  They work directly with the lead Evaluator for the KCC.

  • The Professional Education Committee is responsible for assessing existing resources and identifying needs in health professional education.  Assist in development, coordination and delivery of professional educational programs.

  • The Public Policy Committee is responsible for monitoring the current political environment as it relates to decision-making about cancer prevention and control.  The Committee will make policy recommendations to the KCC and will inform the Consortium of timely opportunities to educate policymakers.

Members on the Standing Committees may represent state-level organizations or groups or be concerned individuals who provide expertise in a particular area of cancer control.

  1. What kinds of things do Standing Committees do?
  2. Standing Committees provide specialized cross-cutting support that enhances cancer control efforts across the continuum of cancer control – prevention/risk reduction, early detection/screening, better treatment and enhanced survivorship/quality of life.   They focus on areas of ongoing critical need and work to increase the overall impact of comprehensive cancer control in Kentucky.

    The following roles are applicable to all Standing Committees:

    1. Strive to maintain a cross-cutting focus.
    2. Stay current with information related to area of interest.
    3. Support Regional Cancer Partners.
    4. Identify and recruit new Ad Hoc Committee members.
    5. Track in-kind contributions to KCC.
    6. Report progress to Steering Committee quarterly.
    7. Encourage and facilitate coordination and collaboration on cancer control efforts.
    8. Provide updated membership list to Program Staff as applicable.
    9. Attend meetings.

     

  3. How long is tenure on a Standing Committee?
  4. There is no term limit of membership as a Standing Committee member.

  5. How can I get involved in a Standing Committee?
  6. To become involved in a Standing Committee, simply contact the chair of the Standing committee, or contact a KCC staff member.
