FAQ: Cancer Action Plan Committees

What kinds of things do Cancer Action Plan Committees do?
Cancer Action Plan committees are often formed to coordinate an event or compile data for a specific area of the cancer continuum. The following roles are applicable to all ad hoc committees:

  • Strive to maintain a cross-cutting focus.
  • Identify and recruit new committee members.
  • Stay current with information related to area of interest.
  • Support Kentucky Cancer Consortium partners.
  • Track in-kind contributions to KCC.
  • Report progress to Steering Committee quarterly.
  • Encourage and facilitate coordination and collaboration on cancer control efforts.
  • Provide updated membership list to program staff, as applicable.
  • Attend meetings.

How long is tenure on a Cancer Action Plan committee?
There is no term limit of membership as a Cancer Action Plan committee. An individual may be a member for the duration of the committee's existence. For example, a Cancer Action Plan committee may plan and carry out an event, and then decide to disband after the evaluation of the event is completed. Another Cancer Action Plan committee may focus on an issue with indefinite needs, such as the Colorectal Cancer Committee, and may be in existence for quite some time.

How can I get involved in an existing Cancer Action Plan committee, or start a new one?
To become involved in an existing committee, contact the chair of that committee. If you would like to explore creating a new ad hoc committee, please contact a member of the Steering Committee or a KCC program staff member.

Membership on an a Cancer Action Plan committee is voluntary and open to any organization, group or individual who meet the following criteria:

  • Have particular interest in a specific area of cancer prevention and control in Kentucky.
