Ad Hoc Committees Overview

Ad Hoc Committees form around specific needs and gaps that have a state-wide focus.  Ad Hoc Committees are formed and dissolved as needed.  These committees work to increase the overall impact of comprehensive cancer control in Kentucky.

Membership on an ad hoc committee is voluntary and open to any organization, group or individual who meet the following criteria:

  1. Have particular interest in a specific area of cancer prevention and control in Kentucky
  2. Demonstrate experience and/or expertise in that specific area or a related field
  3. Endorse the function, mission and role of the KCC.
As of August 2007, the following groups are active Ad Hoc Committees:

  • The Colorectal Cancer Committee works to increase awareness for colorectal cancer screening in Kentucky, though various projects and initiatives.

The Summit Planning Committee is coordinating the content and all logistics for KCC's Spring Summit on April 2-3, 2008. The Summit aims to showcase progress made in addressing the state’s cancer burden; to facilitate best practice sharing; to combine resources; and to provide networking opportunities amongst cancer control partners throughout the state. For the Spring Summit, we are partnering with the Kentucky Women's Cancer Screening Program. Special focuses this Spring will include plenaries on Health Disparities, the HPV Vaccines, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What kinds of things do Ad Hoc Committees do?
  2. Ad Hoc Committees may look very different from one another.  They are often formed to coordinate an event or compile data for a specific area of the cancer continuum. The following roles are applicable to all ad hoc committees:

    1. Strive to maintain a cross-cutting focus.
    2. Stay current with information related to area of interest.
    3. Support Kentucky Cancer Consortium partners.
    4. Identify and recruit new Ad Hoc Committee members.
    5. Track in-kind contributions to KCC.
    6. Report progress to Steering Committee quarterly.
    7. Encourage and facilitate coordination and collaboration on cancer control efforts.
    8. Provide updated membership list to Program Staff as applicable.
    9. Attend meetings.

  3. How long is tenure on an Ad Hoc Committee?
  4. There is no term limit of membership as an Ad Hoc Committee member as long as the Ad Hoc committee is still active.  An individual can be a member of the Ad Hoc for the duration of its existence. For example, if the Committee is planning an event, they may decide to dissolve the Committee after the event is over and has been evaluated. Another Ad Hoc may focus on an emerging issue with indefinite needs, such as the Colorectal Cancer Ad Hoc Committee, and may be in existence for quite some time.

  5. How can I get involved in an existing Ad Hoc, or start a new one?
  6. To become involved in an existing committee, simply contact the chair of the Ad Hoc committee. If you would like to explore creating a new Ad Hoc, please contact a member of the Steering Committee or a KCC staff member.

Membership for ad hoc committees is voluntary and open to any organization, group or individual who meet the following criteria:

    1. Have particular interest in a specific area of cancer prevention and control in Kentucky
